02What Is Hammer Toes?
A hammertoe is a bend at the proximal interphalangeal (PIP), or middle, joint of a lesser toe. A flexible toe can still be straightened by hand; a rigid toe cannot be fully straightened. Pressure from footwear can cause pain, corns, or skin breakdown. Dr. Guy Golan evaluates hammertoes in Columbus, Ohio, with attention to symptoms, toe flexibility, joint stability, circulation, and associated bunions. Treatment can include nonsurgical measures or selected surgical correction; minimally invasive surgery is not appropriate for every patient.

Schedule an evaluation for ongoing toe pain, recurrent corns, or difficulty finding comfortable shoes. A painful rigid toe may warrant surgical discussion after nonsurgical options are considered, but the technique and recovery plan depend on your examination.
